Here are just a few common complaints about
neglected steam systems:
Water Hammer
Does it sound like someone's pounding on
the pipes or radiators in your home or building? Causes include: inadequate venting; improperly pitched
supply or return pipes; incorrect near boiler piping;
non-insulated pipes; failed traps, etc.
No heat in part of the system
A problem that can plague both one-pipe and
two-pipe systems. Common causes include sagging or improperly
sized pipes, wrong fittings in place, bad thermostatic traps or
radiator vents among other things.
Uneven Heating
"It's hot in my room!" says William. "It's
cold in my room!" says Emily. You can have even comfort
with steam heat by balancing the system. Choosing the proper vents
on one-pipe systems and/or installing Thermostatic Radiator Valves
on one & two pipe systems can greatly improve comfort and
efficiency.
High Fuel bills
With the ever-rising costs of fuels today,
efficiency has become a major consideration for heating sources.
Steam heat can provide good efficiency, however, maximizing that
efficiency has as much to do with the system, as it does the
boiler.
